Future Projects! New Fall Line up!

Ok, so you guys hear about this alllll of the time. I want to have this project gun or I want to have THAT project gun. So on and so forth. Well, I have finally picked up my next project! I’m diving into a more vintage aspect of firearms and combat. We’re looking into more late 1960’s early 1970’s Vietnam/Cold War era. On the list, we have an AK build, a CAR-15 build, and an AUG build. This also includes the style of gear as well as uniform. More to come on this.

The first project is the Steyr AUG. This rifle entered service in the late 1970’s and has built quite the reputation of reliability. This particular treasure, I found in our scrape yard section. The scrap yard is the most amazing place for airsoft. You never know what you’re going to find! Its like when a hot rodder takes a trip to the junk yard and finds that near mint condition flathead V8. This rifle right here, is a Classic Army Steyr AUG A2. The A2 designation just means that it has a flat top receiver rather than the typical built in scope. Some companies and airsofters refer to this as the “civilian” version. I don’t know how this came about because it has a full automatic mode. I’ve also seen AUG’s for sale on the civilian market with the scope (Or how the SIG 552 some how got tied to NAVSPECWARCOM, I blame airsoft for that lie as well). In any case, I picked this rifle up for next to nothing because it doesn’t not operate. I do not know the extent of the problem. I haven’t dove into it yet. I do know that it missing the gearbox back plate apparently. I don’t know what it looks like, but it seems to hold the motor in place. I don’t think this will be a hard fix. It also has a version three gearbox, this is news to me! I had no clue. AUG’s are very foreign to me, which adds to my excitement for exotic things! I would like to get this beast up and running in the next several weeks. I would like to turn it into an HBAR which is basically the heavy barreled support weapon. I like the flat top receiver because it will allow for a much wider variety of optics and options. The black will also get a paint job, although I am thinking about picking up a JG green plastic body. I’ve found most of the conversion parts already overseas, time for me to save up for that. This project has not been given a title yet, I’ll let you know when that comes about. I also dig how easy this rifle breaks down in just seconds. You can very easily remove the barrel and upper receiver with the push of a button. This will be great for swapping out the heavy barrel with the carbine length barrel.

With the upcoming release of COD: Black Ops, you can say that I took inspiration from MACV-SOG as well as Recondo and Long Range Reconnaissance Patrols. This should be interesting, as I have never worked on an AUG before. All I can say is thank God that the gearbox is nothing obscure.
